University The new generations are wondering what the value of a university degree is? Our educational system focuses on teaching but not on the learning process. We teach our students knowledge, and we must ask ourselves, will what I am teaching today in my classroom make sense to my students when they finish?
I have said it a lot in my workshops and courses. As teachers, we must focus more on the learning process than the information. We are in the information age, where each of our students has access to information in just seconds. But can our students find their learning process? Can they carry out research that allows them to learn what they do not know for themselves?
The solution we have proposed in our classroom to say that we are an advanced institution is to place a computer and a projector. We say that we are in the information age, while we offer our classes in Power point.

The second reason why students do not want to go to university, according to Bloomberg Magazine, is due to the speed of adaptation. Our society is evolving by leaps and bounds, but universities are not changing. Here is a fact from the World Economic Forum that left me perplexed: 50% of the jobs of this decade (not far away, but within the next ten years) still do not exist. If the educational system in Puerto Rico and the world continues to do what we are doing today, will we be prepared for the future?
I want this article to reflect on whether doing in my classroom is helping my students prepare for the future. I am passionate about research, and as some of you know, I am a Spanish teacher. Still, I tell my students that I teach them the basics and mechanics of writing, but the reality is that in the real world, they can go to the internet and know if a term is or is brought correctly.
Today teachers are not the only source of information. That’s why every time they ask me, I tell them to look. With this I am teaching them not to depend on me to know how to write a word. Also, I love encouraging them to research and write critical essays.
